TACO musicians participated in a pop-up orchestra during a First Friday event on the State Street Green, a temporary park installation in downtown Los Altos. Invited by the Los Altos Forward and the Los Altos First Friday Committees to share our music making, we played our first public sight-reading event. Seventy musicians played through 10 pieces on this relatively warm summer evening, while families and friends gathered on the green to listen, picnic and enjoy the music. The emphasis was on the fun process of making music together, just as we do in our monthly gatherings.

Introducing the orchestra to those listening, the conductor denied any attempt at performance, explaining that performance implies practice accompanied by an effort to play as perfectly as possible, which TACO studiously avoided.  Happily sight-reading, if we were able to create tunes that were familiar to anyone, we considered ourselves lucky! Generous spirits and good humor made this summer event a magical music making experience for all!
